How to use a Fetal Doppler

 The importance of Fetal Doppler can not be doubted. A lot of pregnant women are actually renting or purchasing Fetal Doppler. Those who understand the importance of it will basically not have a problem having the medical device at home to use to detect the heart beat of the unborn baby. It is said that detecting the pulsations will indeed prevent complications that may be witnessed in the unborn baby. These complications will include heart problems and miscarriage.

 There are many manufacturers releasing Fetal Doppler in the market. There are also hundreds of dealers who are renting out the devices for use at home. According to the FDA regulations, Fetal Doppler is under the class 11 prescription medical devices. It is therefore important to note that you may be required to seek the doctor’s approval before using the medical device. FDA regulates the use of machine. The ultrasounds mechanism that is the basis behind the functionality of the machine is also approved by the FDA.

 For you to reap to the maximum on the use of the device, you will need to use it in the appropriate manner. The following are steps to be followed by the user.

Step 1: Check positioning

You are advised to lie flat on your back. At this position, your stomach should be exposed about 3 inches below the belly button. This position will be very important even for safety purposes.  Make sure that you are comfortable in the said position.

Step 2: Gel application

Special ultrasonic gel will be applied.  It is recommended that you pour about one tablespoon of it into the centre of the stomach. The microphone part of the Fetal Doppler should be used to spread the gel all over the abdomen

Step 3: Turn on the machine

Your machine will now be ready to be turned on after the above steep. About 3 inches below the navel is where you will place the microphone part. You will then allow gliding of it around the belly. This will be done slowly, as you are making a clockwise circle.

Step 4: listen to the heartbeat

 The microphone movements should give you an opportunity to listen to the heartbeat. You may do a number of circles before you come to locate the heart beat. Keep on with the exercise

Step 5: Find the heartbeat

There could be some factors that may hinder the functionality of the device. You will have to draw your spirals towards the navel, every time you make a full circle. The circling or spiraling should continue, getting smaller and smaller on approaching the centre of the heart beat, until you are confident that you have located the beat.

Step 6:  get the BPM

You have now located the heart beat. You will be required to hold the microphone at that point and wait to hear the beats. You can now record beats per minute, and view the LCD screen if using the digital Fetal Doppler.
